A Computational Approach to Source Adaptation in the ‚Morte Darthur‘

How do the different languages of the source texts Thomas Malory works with in the eight sections of his Morte Darthur influence his style? What does that tell us about Malory’s approach to adapting and translating his source material? And can an understanding of this linguistic influence shed light on the nature of the source he used for the ‚Tale of Sir Gareth‘? To answer these questions Christian Edlich-Muth and I undertook a digital linguistic analysis of Malory’s Morte Darthur using Eder et al’s excellent Stylo app – you can read more about our results in the Digital Medievalist: https://journal.digitalmedievalist.org/articles/10.16995/dm.86/
